The Founding of the Town of Walworth, UPDATE
We recently made a discovery. We thought that Walworth had become a town on April 20, 1829, but as it turns out, that was the day the LAW was passed ALLOWING the creation of the Town of Walworth (as a legal entity) on April 5, 1830. Of course, we know settlers had come to this area years earlier. Over the years, we had first been part of the Town of Sodus which then split off the Town of Williamson and then Williamson split off the Town of Ontario. Finally Walworth was split off from Ontario. And here is an interesting graphic created by Huron Town Historian, Rosa Fox that shows how some of the towns were divided during the 1790 to 1830 period. WC Origins Rev.IMG_8963 copy
