General Gordon Granger and Juneteenth – September 18, 2023 at 7 PM
On Monday, September 18 at 7 PM, the Walworth Historical Society will host Bruce Farrington and Jim Paprocki to share the story of General Gordon Granger who was born in Wayne County, NY in the Hamlet of Joy, Town of Sodus. As you probably know, General Granger delivered General Order #3 in Galveston TX on June 19, 1865 notifying enslaved people living there that they had been set free. The annual celebration on June 19th became know at Juneteenth and of course is now a National Holiday.
The meeting will be held at the Lodge in Ginegaw Park. It is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
